The series kicks off with jazz quartet Steve Hobbs and Friends on Saturday, 24 October 2009. A Raleigh native, Steve began playing hand drums at age seven, took up the trumpet at eleven and, at seventeen, switched to vibraphone, where his talent has flourished. Steve was awarded his Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music in 1978 and received his Master of Music in Jazz Mallet Performance in 1982 from the University of Miami. Steve performs concerts around the world, and has been a headliner at many jazz festivals. Steve’s latest album went to number three on the jazz charts and stayed in the top ten for over ten weeks. Bass, piano and drums round out this seasoned quartet as they eloquently and effortlessly move between well-known standards and original tunes for an evening of music that will delight jazz enthusiasts.
